1. (n.) A behavior of becoming attracted to or aroused by intelligence and its use.
Origins: From the Latin root sapien, wise or intelligent, and Latin sexualis, relating to the sexes
I consider myself a sapiosexual. Though physical attributes do play a role in my attraction to someone, it's nothing compared to their mind. An intelligent man is the sexiest thing there is. If you can debate me on an issue and stand by your ideals while still understanding mine...mmmm. A well read, articulate, open minded person who has street sense to go with all of his book smarts is ideal.
For the longest I've struggled with breakouts from acne, and for the past year they have gotten worse. I've tried everything from proactive to over the counter products, and nothing seemed to work. A friend of mine recommended Witch Hazel astrigent which is derived from a plant and said that it really worked for her breakouts.
Above is the one she uses, but I for some reason couldn't find that brand. It's sold online for around $4. I'm actually using an astringent from Clinique that uses witch hazel as it's main ingredient and it has been working wonders.
I no longer get large breakouts, and my skin is extremely soft. Normally, during ovulation, I break out to the point where my face hurts, but since using this astringent, I didn't break out once. I'm not using any chemicals...just wash your face with your choice of cleanser, and follow with astringent then moisturizer.
I hope this helps someone...I see the constant advertisements for different acne regimens, all of which are extremely expensive, and for me never worked. Witch hazel is completely natural, inexpensive, and actually gets the job done. Thanks to S.R. for the recommendation.
I feel like a little kid, LOL...but I have the hugest crush on this guy I work with. He's tall, bald, dark chocolate, can sing, play the piano...he's just scrumptious. When I first started working for AT&T a year ago, he was one of my trainers, and he was the nicest person ever! A year later, I'm still feeling the same way about him. I've let my emotions get the best of me though, I used to say hi and greet him with a hug and quick conversation. The more my feelings grew for him, the less I communicated with him. In my mind I'm looking thirsty, and giving away the fact that I like him. I pretty much shunned him away, he's noticed too because now I can see his discomfort when he tries to talk to me. I don't know if he knows I like him, or he's being awkward as a result of my awkwardness.
I know you're thinking, why don't I just man up and tell him....I work at a place where if one person knows your business, THE WORLD will know your business. If I tell him, it will be all over the floor, then all over the city. Gossip, gossip. On top of that, it would probably make me feel even more awkward towards him if he expresses opposition towards my feelings. Then I'll straight up feel like a retard, I don't like rejection.
So I'll just keep my feelings to myself and keep swooning over him...in my mind. LOL
I'm at a point in my life where I don't really know what I want to do with it. I have so many interests, so many things that I'd like to do. I'm 23 with a degree in chemistry, a grad school drop out and now I'm applying to go to pharmacy school. My worst fear in life is not being successful, but what measures success? Is it the amount of money you make, or doing something that you're really passionate about? I choose the latter.
All my life, I've done well in school, and that's for the most part because my parents enforced having a good education. My drive to become a doctor mainly comes from wanting to fulfill the expectations of my parents. I honestly don't know WTF I want to do. Yea, I love science but is it my passion? I feel I've been so busy trying to be what they want me to be, that I've lost myself. I just don't know. That same lack of passion is what caused me to drop out of the PhD program at Ga Tech in the first place. I'm not incompetent, I mean I got in...clearly. I just am not sure what to do with myself. What's so wrong in taking time off to discover what it is you want to do. I'm now back at home, and I feel like my dad is disappointed that I'm not in school. He's always asking how my applications are going and have I heard from any schools. LEAVE ME ALONE!
If finances weren't so much of an issue, I'd be travelling. That's what I really want to do. School will always be there, but I'm young and in my prime and want to see the world. There's so much more to life than schooling and working. I want to learn, grow, discover different cultures, meet new people. I want to live life to the fullest and not be complacent with the norm. I wasn't born to be complacent. I feel like there's so much ahead of me, but I need to break free. Away from the safety nest, away from beneath my parents wings. I need to not fear what they think because I can only live for myself. It's easier said than done, but the time is soon coming.
This is so sad, though I must admit seeing the 2 year old smoke like a pro is almost comical. I honestly can't fathom a baby smoking, 2 packs a day at that. According to this video, his father gave him his first cigarette at 18 months. Where are child services when you need them?
Kanye has done it again. Peep the new single entitled "Power" from his forthcoming album "Good Ass Job"...I don't care what anyone says, Ye is a musical genius.
I came across this excerpt from John L. Mason's book entitled "Conquering an Enemy Called Average" and it was as if a light bulb went of in my head. It seems as if it is so easy to complain about life, when for the most part circumstances that we are placed in are because of our own doing. Granted, some unfortunate situations may arise, but you live and you learn, then you grow from it. Change is eminent, those who accept and embrace it are the most successful in life. I found this to be quite profound, hopefully you will too.
Status Quo by John Mason
Change. I hope this word doesn’t scare you, but rather, inspires you. Herbert Spencer said, “A living thing is distinguished from a dead thing by the multiplicity of the changes at any moment taking place in it.” Change is an evidence of life. It is impossible to grow without change. Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. The truth is, life is always at some turning point.
What people want is progress, if they can have it without change, Impossible! You must change and recognize that change is your greatest ally. The person who never changes his opinion, never corrects his mistakes. The fact is, the road to success is always under construction.
Yesterday’s formula for success is often tomorrow’s recipe for failure. Consider what Thomas Watson, the founder of the IBM Corporation, said, “There is a world market about 5 computers.” Where would IBM be today if Watson had not been willing to change?
You cannot become what you are destined to be b remaining what you are. John Patterson said, “Only fools and dead men don’t change their minds. Fools won’t. Dead men can’t.” If you don’t respect the need for change consider this: How many things have you seen that have changed just in the past year? When you change yourself, opportunities will change. The same kind of thinking that has brought you to where you are will not necessarily get you to where you want to go. Sante Boeve discovered this truth: “There are people whose watch stops at a certain hour and who remain permanently at that age.”
Do not fear change, for it is an unchangeable law of progress. The man who uses yesterday’s methods in today’s world won’t be in business tomorrow. A traditionalist is simply a person whose mind is always open to new ideas, provided they are the same old ones. “There are people who not only strive to remain static themselves, but strive to keep everything else so…their position is almost laughably hopeless: (Odell Shepard).
Mignon McLaughlin said, “It’s the most unhappy people who most fear change.” When patterns and tradition are broken, new opportunities come together. Defending your faults and errors only probes that you have no intention of quitting them. All process is due to those who were not satisfied to let well enough alone. They weren’t afraid to change. Change is not your enemy…it is your friend.
The Boondocks are back! Im so excited!!!! This is one of the best show to have ever been invented! Check the clip. Now those who are all politically correct and gung-ho for Obama may be a bit offended, but open your mind!!!! This shit is hilarious!!!
New Season begins May 2nd 11:30pm Eastern on Adult Swim. Mark your calenders!
I can't even think of the caption that should go along with this video. Shown are former presidents Bush and Clinton on a trip to Haiti. At first view I laughed, histerically at that, but when seeing the BIGGER picture, it's one of the saddest things I've ever seen. A man who was once the president of this UNITED States whipes his hand after shaking the hand of another human being. What could have been going on in his head, does he see them as filthy, dirty, beneath him? I'm, to say the least, disgusted. You claim to be there for philanthropic purposes, yet you deem youself too good for the likes of the one's you've supposedly gone to assist. I REALLY want yo know your views on this...am I being extra. How do y'all feel?
It's sad to say, but I'm not at all surprised by this incident, but I AM surprised that it occurred in Jersey. Just the other day, the Sheriff followed me and my acquaintances out of iHop accusing us of not paying, when he CLEARLY saw me break out that $20 bill...hell, I even gave that bitch a tip that she didn't deserve. All this to say, we've come a long way, but we're not there yet. "Keep your eye on the prize."
Wal-Mart officials are looking at security tapes after an announcement was made for "all black people'' to leave a store in South Jersey. A man used the public-address system at the Route 42 store in Washington Township Sunday night and calmly announced: "Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now.'' Patricia Covington and Shelia Ellington were inside the store when it happened and told the Courier Post that customers and store employees looked stunned when they heard it. "In 2010, I want to know why such statements are being made because it flies in the face of what we teach them [our kids] at home, and that's tolerance for people," said Ellington. Ellington and other customers let store management and police know they were upset. They asked the store to use the same announcement system to apologize to customers that night, which it did. Wal-Mart management called the incident "unacceptable," and said it's working to make sure nothing like this happens at any other stores. Washington Township police and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the incident as a possible bias crime. "I can't believe it in this day and age," Covington told the paper. "Wal-Mart needs to be more responsible." Covington and Elllington are boycotting the store.
It's nice to see that some artist still create ART in their music videos. I haven't seen a video with an actual storyline in a minute. Lady Gaga's acting was superb (for a vid) and she never ceases to amaze me with her costumes. Beyonce...ehhh. NO COMMENT!
For those who missed the Oscars, there were a few moment of absolute hilarity. Some people simply have no couth. LMAO. In the video below, Roger Ross Williams gets Kanye'd by Elinor Burkett. She was rude as hell for this one...Other highlights were Monique (does she have a last name) winning Best Female Supporting role, and Precious winning Best Adapted Screenplay.
I know by now you have seen, or at least heard of the sextape from alleged FAMU students. The video was a disgrace to say that least, but there has been no proof showing that the participants in the video actually attend the historically black Florida A&M University. The participants are supposedly actors who got paid $10,000 to post a video on DormDare.com. Below is a memorandum from the president of the institution addressing the issue.
FROM: President James H. Ammons
RE: Internet Video
This correspondence informs you of a situation that has surfaced.
The matter involves a sexually explicit website that advertises and
displays a video that was allegedly made at a historically black
college or university in Florida . In addition, the name of the video
posted is “BigRattler 77.”
We have not determined if the individuals in the video are students
of Florida A&M University (FAMU), or any other college or university.
It has been determined, however, that the residential facility
featured is not a FAMU dormitory. The Division of Student Affairs is
further investigating whether this involves any other FAMU facility or
FAMU students.
This video is quickly traveling around through cyberspace and we are
starting to receive calls from concerned students and alumni. In light
of this, I wanted to inform you and other university stakeholders,
including our alumni, that regardless of the video title and status of
the persons appearing in the video, FAMU does not endorses the
website, video or behavior of its participants. We are encouraging
the owners of the site to remove the word “Rattler” from the video
title.
Again, this letter was written to ensure that you are aware of the
situation and that you are informed with accurate information.
This monologue taken from Kanye West's blog is one of the many reasons why I love Kanye, both as an artist and an individual. I don't believe he's a menace, just misunderstood, as we all are at times. He's currently working on his new album to be released later this year.
Why is it that people crave so much attention? People will stop at nothing, only to say that they were the best at something...even if that "something" is the most idiotic thing you can think of. Below is a video by my favorite youtuber Duke Powell. He is saying everything I was thinking, but just too lazy to type. Check it out & COMMENT!
This is the video to one of my FAVORITE songs in the world "Heaven At Night" by Kid Cudi that I recently stumbled upon. This song was released on his first Mixtape entitled "A Kid Named Cudi" in September of 2008. Its funny how so many people slept on him back then.
So, anyone that knows me knows I LOVE my natural hair. I spend a lot of time watching YouTube videos and reading blogs on how I can nurture and style my hair. I recently tried a Wash and Go style using Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Conditioner. Normally you're to wash out the conditioner, but I was told by a friend that it really defines your curls if you simply leave it in. So I did...I washed my hair at midnight and left it to dry overnight. Woke up at 9am to go to work and its a DISASTER! Its flat, and there is white residue from the conditioner being in my hair. I was so pissed...and to say the least, I will NEVER do a wash and go again.
Natural hair ladies: have you had any similar mishaps that you had to quickly recover from. I know it can get hard sometimes having natural hair, but I wouldnt trade it for the world.
I don't know my thoughts on this. I'm feeling kind of wishy-washy. On the one hand, I appreciate the effort and the fact that they emcompassed several genres of modern day music. I feel that it was well put together, and of course beauitifully composed...BUT...at the same time I have some criticisms. For one, they could have left the rap scene with LL Cool J out...not neccessary. Two...autotune? for real? Three, I know Wyclef is from Haiti, and he's very emotional about this whole situation, but I felt his parts actually brought down the song. My ears couldnt take it. And why wasn't Chris Brown in it? Overall, Kudos to Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones for putting together this ensemble. My question is, does watching this make you want to go into your pocketbook and write a check. I've never been one to get very emotional at the "Save the Children" infomercials, so I would like to know "normal" people's opinions about it. Does this presentation raul you up so much that you just feel compelled to GIVE! Didn't really do it for me...but that's just me.
As we all know, Lil Wayne was convicted of weapons charges and sentenced to one year in prison. The day before he was scheduled to go to jail, the judge granted him a 1 month pardon so he could have surgery on his teeth! Now I know I’m not the only one that feels some kind of way about this. Why are these artists getting special privileges? It’s already bad enough that our hard earned tax dollars are going towards housing them. Why are artists receiving get out of jail free cards? Do their successful careers make them any more important than the dope dealer on the corner, selling drugs to feed his family because he can’t get a decent job? Are Lil Wayne’s teeth more important than the laws that have been set for us citizens to obey and abide by? What significant contribution has Lil’ Wayne made to society that sets him aside from the rest? Granted, he has a successful music career, but he has brought forth nothing but negative influences. With his sizzurp sipping, pill popping, and lasciviously sexual lyrical content, I fail to see why so many people admire him…and let’s not forget the multiple children he’s fathered within the past year. Is this really who our youth is looking up to? While on Twitter, I already see trending topics declaring to “#FreeWeezy”…free him from what?
And while on the subject of admiration, what is going on with this whole Barbie “movement”…or as I like to call it plague/epidemic. By now I know you’ve heard/seen the artist that calls herself Nicki Minaj. She prides herself on being a “bad bitch”, “harajuku barbie” and is a proclaimed bisexual. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see anything bad about her. She is pretty…BUT…she is fake; fake hair, fake nails, fake butt (yep, she wears padding), and I question the authenticity of her breasts. I’m not hating, but it saddens me to see what so many of youth have to look up to, or rather, what they CHOOSE to look up to. With prominent woman like Dr. Ruth Simmons, Maxine Waters, and of course our first lady Michelle Obama, why is it that so many look up to and mimic artist such as Nicki Minaj? There are young celebrities that display a positive influence and are positive role models as well; Raven Simone, Chrisette Michelle, hell…even the Simmons sisters are among the names that I wouldn’t mind my child looking up to. I recently came across several YouTube videos of young girls impersonating this Ms. Minaj, and my question is…how would you feel if this was what YOUR daughter aspired to be? I’m just sayin’ **kanye shrug**
Alright, I know I'm on a bit of a Cudi trip lately, but what can I say? The man makes great music. This is also one of my favorite songs....Symphonies Remix. This video is very dope and innovative! Let me know your thoughts....does anyone else feel like singing Umbella-ella-ella when hearing this song? Has the same base line and symbols.
This is one of my favorite songs in the world!!! I have it as a ringtone and have been antivipating the release of the video. I love the concept, thought I must admit that I wish there was more night life shown in the video. Still very dope! I have David Guetta's album, and if you like House music, you'll love it!
Wale is one of the most underrated rappers in the game! His debut album was compared to the likes of Jay-Z and Talib. This song "My Sweetie" was one of the bonus songs on the album, and stays true to his background of Nigerian (Yoruba) culture. My fellow Naija's know all too well of what he's talking about in the song. Let me know your thoughts!
The other day I blogged about Kid Cudi's upcoming shot "How To Make It In America" that is to debut on HBO on February 14th...remember me saying I don't have HBO and cant watch it! WELL, HBO courteously provided the first episode for viewing for promotion purposes. That's one down...now I just need a way to watch the other 7 episodes! Help a sistah out HBO!!!! Anyway. Happy viewing. I think the show is going to be a hit!
Sarah Palin...I simply don't know what to say about this one. This woman was ALMOST the Vice-President of these United States, and here she is caught reading notes from the palm of her hands. Granted, I understand that notes may be needed during an interview, but how about having a little more class and using...IDK...NOTE CARDS!!! This is a disgrace. And for some reason, she still have a very strong base of supporters. Palin declared that she plans on running for presidency in 2012...how do you feel about her as a leader? You already know my point of view.
Anyone who knows anything about me knows I am a HUGE fan of Kid Cudi AKA Scott Mescudi. Here he and Bryan Greenberg discuss their new HBO series "How To Make It In America" which is going to debut on February 14th. I am so excited for this show...BUT...I dont have HBO. If anyone knows how I can possibly stream/watch it online, please let me know. Until then, enjoy!
If you have never heard of this group, you need to get to know them. Their album MANNERS, is on of the best albums I've ever heard! Electro melodies combined with the high pitched tones of lead singer Micheal Angelakos makes this group a force to be reckoned with.
I think this is DOPE! This remake of We Are The World is a great idea BUT...WHERE IS DIDDY! I thought he invented the remix? Amongst the list of celebs participating in the 88-member choir are my favs, Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Tyrese, Jennifer Hudson, Trey Songs, and...Miley Cyrus? LOL...I'll let you guys know when the song is released.
Check Juelz Santana freestyling over that Snoop Dogg "I Wanna Rock" beat...honestly, this is one of the hottest instrumentals ever. Im surprised I hadn't heard more freestlyles. *kanye shrug*
Supra Skytop...I looooove these shoes! For some reason I think the Supra brand is one of the dopest to ever be established! Check out more colors and styles at www.suprafootwear.co.uk
Hello World! This is my first posting. Just wanting to say hello! This is the first of many. I have so little to say and so much time...WAIT...reverse that! I have so much to say, and so little time! I love engaging in conversation with people, especially if they have something constructive to say so feel free to comment, and express whatever is on your mind. Unlike most people, I RESPOND to each and every person!!! Thank me later...
Until then...Au voir!!! MUAH...I love u guys already!
